I meant to post this yesterday, but I didn't have any signal at the state fair. Anyway, this was our lunch-the 'fun bucket.'. It contains 2 deep fried fish fillets, 3 deep fried shrimp, 3 deep fried zucchini, and French fries. We decided to also get a side of deep fried green beans, to make ourselves feel healthy. Basically, this is a heart attack in a cute, purple pail.
I tried the deep fried Nutella from this stand at the California State Fair. I think they had a frozen Nutella brick that they battered and deep fried. I'm still recovering from the sugar high...

I've recently been inspired to try learning origami again. I remember seeing origami roses and being amazed by how realistic they looked, and wanting to make them myself. So I did some research and found the set of instructions below. I never got past the 2nd page... :(

Switched from screen to tmux. It took some adapting (after all these years!), but now I'm really happy with it. Also switched from native Terminal app to iTerm. The combination is sweet. (Especially after some custom key bindings.)

Went without my phone for almost 4 hours and 30 minutes. Worth it for a good cause.

[super nerdy question] Anyone know what a typical bitrate of 4k video would be using VP9? My attempts to google this keep leading to layperson articles. It seems based on the spec that you should get reasonable quality out of 10Mbps, but I'd love to hear what youtube is encoding videos as, for example.

Ice skating with my nephew. I don't really know how to stop properly, so I'm lucky that he can't go too fast :). Also, I got to try out my new ice skates. They feel so much better than rental skates.

Kitty sat down in front of the door to a friend's apartment back in 2005, but she couldn't keep her. We couldn't say no. Kitty is very sedate and happy to sunbathe or curl up in a warm lap. Though, she is very picky about which humans she likes.

We got Jack in 2010 from the LA Shelter. They claimed he was 8 weeks old, but based on his fur and weight, he was probably closer to 6 weeks. He's a mutt, but shows a mix of tabby and possibly bengal. He's completely insane and acts like a puppy, particularly to Nick.
